3:AM TOP 5: HEIDI JAMES
Heidi James, who recently appeared at the inaugural Through a Glass Darkly bash, is launching a small independent publishing company called Social Disease "dedicated to publishing great literature with no eye on the market". The first release will be an anthology of short stories by 3:AM favourite Tony O'Neill, tantalisingly entitled Seizure Wet Dreams, which should be followed by more work from "challenging and exciting writers". Looks like Social Disease will become the focal point of the Offbeat Generation, to which both Heidi and Tony belong. Watch this space.
Heidi -- a graduate of the Soho Burlesque Review whose work has been lauded by the likes of Will Self ("Her prose -- at its best -- sings") and Laura Hird ("One of my favourite young writers") -- has a novel of her own (Carbon) coming out in March 07 on Wrecking Ball Press. Here are her top five tracks "that say it all for you":
1. "Private View" -- The Buff Medways 2. "Dream Scream" -- Daniel Johnston 3. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" -- Joy Division 4. "Shirts Off" -- Armitage Shanks 5. "Hangin on the Telephone" -- Blondie
