BASTILLE DAY
The recent release of the Paris Calling compilation (including the likes of Plastiscine, Brooklyn, Second Sex, The Rolls, The Parisians, Les Shades and The Hellboys) has proved that the French (mainly Parisian) rock scene is thriving. Those Gallic sounds can now be sampled in London thanks to The French Disconnection, "a new festival of French music in London, aiming to celebrate French inventiveness and innovation both classique and nouveau, and bring us some merde-chaud bands while they're at it". Hot on the heels of the the sold-out Spring Collection (which featured Sebastien Tellier and Jean-Claude Vannier) comes the Summer Collection with live sets from Bertrand Burgalat, The Konki Duet (pictured), Piney Gir and DJ Oof on the decks. It's at The Luminaire -- Time Out's live venue of the year (311 High Road, Kilburn, London NW6 7JR) -- on 25 July.
