MAGIC 8
Poster boy of the Offbeat Generation Mr Matthew Coleman recently directed Magic 8's first video (more info on his visual activities here).
"Since forming in London, femme-fronted indie quintet Magic8 have been gathering support with shows at the Astoria, Barfly, Luminaire, Rhythm Factory and many others, appearing on occasion as support for the Duke Spirit and Larrikin Love. Magic8 songs have been played by Rob da Bank on Radio One, as well on XFM in the UK, and also across the airwaves in the USA, Canada and Europe. Their music provides the soundtrack for www.adidas.com/football". Their debut single "Give Up" is out now, and they will be headlining John Peel Day in Ipswich on the 12th October. You can also catch them at The Loft in Cambridge on the 21st October.
Here's what people have been saying about them:
"'Give up' is a slow burner of a song that's a perfect platform for the ice cool vocals of polly. She sings desolation and unhappiness that is part Debbie Harry and part Stuart Staples from the Tindersticks. The flip 'Meet Me in Mexico' is just as strong as the a-side and it's another desperate and melancholic pop song" - Rough Trade
"This band are destined for great things" - Rob da Bank
