THE MISSING LINKS
 I recently received a cool postcard ad from a new American journal of "poetry & poetics" called Plantarchy. Looks very promising indeed. * Tristram Shandy: the trailer. * A short (and incomplete) history of literary hoaxes from Chatterton to JT Leroy who was recently outed by the New York Times. I feel quite smug as I've been telling all and sundry for years that JT Leroy was a fraud. And a girl! A lot of people are looking very silly indeed today. Those, in particular, who believe that being fucked-up and "transgressive" (LOL) is enough to turn you into an interesting writer. Further reading: The Village Voice on the preposterous "cult" of JT ("One of LeRoy's literary mentors, Bruce Benderson, wrote a few years ago: 'Seldom in my life had I encountered a 'professional' with such a knack for creating an instant sense of intimacy'".) For a first-hand account, check out Dennis Cooper's always-interesting (and obviously sincere) blog: "I just hope that the people who've been taken will swallow their pride and begin to entertain the fact that that they were fooled, and that it's okay to have been fooled. No one was more fooled than me, and it blows my mind that I bought the whole story for so many years, but accepting that I was really gullible for what I believed was a good cause is really okay and kind of interesting when I'm not angry at Laura for fucking me over". Oh, and this.
