KEVIN WILLIAMSON AND THE THOUGHT POLICE
 Kevin Williamson, the founder of Rebel Inc, tells 3:AM's A. Stevens why he's started a blog:
"I've been a fan of fast DIY publishing since the days of Sniffin Glue fanzine, and blogging seems like the natural extension of that. With sites like Blogger anyone can build their own website for free in less than half an hour even if you know fuck all about design. I love the immediacy of blogs and the absence of censorship.
The editorial censorship in the corporate media is suffocating and works in ways that most readers aren't even aware of. The self-censorship that is expected of every writer in every national newspaper has always fucked me off. I used to write for the nationals quite a lot, even wrote weekly columns for both The Scotsman and The Herald, but I could never say exactly what I wanted to say in the way I wanted to say it. Constant battling with conservative editors over what was permissible has always pissed me off. They're like the thought police. Sometimes when you think someone in power is acting like a total cunt you want to tell it the way it is.
That's why I started The Scottish Patient as a blog. I enjoy the freedom of writing whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like it, in my own style. I'm into my music and my movies, Hibs FC, underground culture, Scottish history, political dissent, and a 1001 other things and they all edge their way into the blog. There's plenty of scope for taking the piss too!"
